You can always smell a good rock show before you see it. Right? Your typical overpriced beer which is gone sooner than when you ordered it, cheap perfume that has lost it's vibrancy, and the distinct odor of three hundred some odd adults who just realized they are going to sweat through their thrifted denim. Last night at the Hi-Fi in Indianapolis was exactly that kind of glorious mess. The Summer Set rolled through town and turned a crowded winter Saturday night into a beautiful, humid rave.

To do "The Summer Set" justice, and to give the absolute truth of what happened in that room. It is difficult. I never got into them when they first emerged with their "Love Like This" album, when it came out back in 2009. Many of those I met inside the room swears by the lyrics written by Brian Dales (Lead Singer), and could recite every line of every song the band has been putting out into the world since 2007. Though I was less of a fan, and side closer to "academic" when it comes to pop-punk bands from the late 2000's, I admit the performance they put on was on one of the better I have seen from MOKB in recent years. Will I go home and listen to every one of their songs, maybe, maybe not. However, I will recommend their show to anyone who is on the fence. Excellent showmanship, and talent. If you take anything from this just remember, if it's Saturday night night, and The Summer Set are in your town, go buy yourself a ticket, wait in line for a beer, and enjoy one of the more rewarding things you can do for yourself.
