The primary challenge of skate photography is the high-velocity and unpredictable nature of the movement. To get the best shots you have to be physically involved in the space, which means navigating the park without interfering with the skaters' lines. Beyond the physical risks, the technical demand of freezing high-speed action in changing outdoor light is a constant battle.
We had to find a way to make the images feel as fast as the skating while maintaining perfect clarity on the boards and the athletes. We also had to manage the logistics of documenting dozens of skaters across different age groups and skill levels within a single day. We overcame these obstacles through meticulous pre-planning with the skate team and a "run-and-gun" approach that allowed me to anticipate the action before it happened.

Our work for Skate League provided a professional platform for a community that is often overlooked. By documenting the joy and the challenge of the sport, I helped the league show that they are building something much larger than a trophy ceremony.
These images serve as a permanent record of the growth and the tight bond shared by Midwest skaters. It was an awesome experience to help bring this league to life and I am proud to have provided the visual tools they need to keep this community moving forward.
Next projects.
