Introduction

Hoodrich is not just a clothing brand. It is a visual representation of ambition and the relentless pursuit of growth. Founded on the underground sounds and urban textures of the UK, the brand has maintained a deep connection to the culture that raised it. My role as a videographer and art director was to capture this essence through a lens that felt as authentic as the garments themselves. In a collaboration with JD Sports, we set out to document a campaign that prioritized the lifestyle and the community over the product alone. This project was about honoring the struggle and the come up while providing a high-octane look at the brand’s current global influence. The visual strategy for this project was built on a foundation of raw, unpolished energy. We opted for a run-and-gun production style that allowed us to move as fast as the culture itself. I led the art direction on set by managing a multidisciplinary team of stylists and models while ensuring the crew stayed agile enough to capture moments as they happened naturally. To achieve the "Hoodrich" look, I utilized a mixed media approach that blended the nostalgic grit of vintage VHS with the crisp clarity of modern digital formats. We even integrated obscure cameras to provide textures that standard production gear simply cannot replicate. This combination created a visual rhythm that matched the brand’s roots in underground music and street culture. By directing the talent to lean into their own movements rather than following a rigid script, we were able to produce content that feels lived-in and genuinely reflective of the brand’s identity.

The primary challenge of this project was maintaining a high level of art direction within a high-speed environment. A run-and-gun shoot requires a constant state of readiness where lighting and composition must be adjusted on the fly without breaking the momentum of the talent. We had to ensure that the "From Nothing to Something" aesthetic didn't feel manufactured or overly polished.

Balancing the technical needs of mixed media—constantly switching between digital rigs and vintage analog gear—required a disciplined workflow to keep the footage organized and the narrative cohesive. We overcame these hurdles by trusting the instincts of our stylists and models and allowing the environment to dictate the pace of the shoot.
