The primary challenge of this project was the environmental shift between venues. Jazz clubs are notoriously difficult to shoot because they are designed for acoustics rather than optics. I had to navigate deep shadows and moody, warm stage lights to get crisp shots that didn't lose the atmosphere of the room.
Moving from the intimate club setting to the bright, structured environment of a university required a fast pivot in art direction. I had to ensure the photos felt like parts of the same story even though the lighting and energy were vastly different. Balancing a heavy travel schedule between these stops while processing content in real time meant I had to stay sharp and technical at every turn. We overcame these hurdles by focusing on Grace’s consistent charisma, which acted as the visual anchor for the entire project.

Grace Kelly represents the rare combination of immense talent and a truly kind spirit. Being able to bring her Midwest journey to life through this archive was a privilege. The project resulted in a suite of assets that celebrate her music and her dedication to the industry.
It stands as a reminder that the best content comes from working with people who are as passionate about their people as they are about their art. I am proud to have documented this chapter of her career and to have shared her incredible talent with our community.
Next projects.
