27 domestic and international brands will present collections through Saturday.
Tokyo fashion week’s runway shows for the spring/summer 2027 season began Monday, with Japanese brand "yoshiokubo" opening the event at Shibuya Hikarie.
At the opening show, designer Yoshio Kubo presented a collection around an installation of a "ger" (a portable tent used as nomadic dwelling) placed at the center of the venue. The lineup included a coat made from lightweight, breathable fabrics and a blouson with a hood that completely cover the head.
"I focused on creating clothing that isn’t bound by seasonal distinctions. I tried to design pieces that are comfortable and allow people to move freely", Kubo said.
The runway presentations are the main event of Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo, organized by the Japan Fashion Week Organization. A total of 27 domestic and international brands are set to unveil their new collections through Saturday.
