Spiritbox have returned with "Mourning", a stand-alone single released alongside a new music video. The track marks the band’s first new music since their 2025 album, Tsunami Sea.
The new song moves in a different direction from some of the band’s heavier material. According to the source article, "Mourning" leans more toward rock than metal, using heaviness and compressed riffs to build atmosphere rather than centering on the riff itself. The song also includes light progressive touches and lingering metalcore elements in the vein of Killswitch Engage, while giving vocalist Courtney LaPlante more room for expressive clean vocals.
The video and artwork also suggest a visual shift. The source article states that the music video’s move from black and white to vibrant color, together with the single’s cover art, strongly implies a deliberate change from Tsunami Sea, which prominently featured simplified black and white aesthetics for the album and tour.
Spiritbox are also preparing for a run of live dates in the UK, Europe, and Australia. In addition, the band is set for a November 21st show with Metallica and Suicidal Tendencies for the anniversary of the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
