Blackpink star Jisoo joins Salomon as global ambassador, bridging French mountain heritage with global streetwear culture.

There was a time when you wore Salomon because you were actually planning to hike up a frozen ridge in Chamonix or risk a broken ankle on a wet alpine trail. Today you wear them to buy an overpriced espresso in downtown Manhattan or to sit front row at a show during Paris Fashion Week. The transformation of the Annecy born brand from a hardcore technical outfitter to an ultimate street status symbol has been happening in slow motion for a decade. Now the French label has dropped any remaining illusions of pure mountain isolation by naming global pop icon Jisoo as its newest global ambassador.

It is a massive alliance that will probably make old school gear purists grind their teeth while luxury executives pop champagne. For Salomon this partnership is the logical climax of a long migration from mountain mud to the cultural mainstream. They are no longer just selling a sneaker designed to withstand the elements. They are selling a specific aesthetic of survival wrapped in contemporary luxury.

Jisoo herself frames the deal as something far more grounded than a standard corporate transaction. Growing up close to the mountains in South Korea, she spent her youth surrounded by a topography where nature and the outdoors were just an ordinary part of daily life. For a woman whose everyday reality is now defined by sold out stadiums and intense public scrutiny, the mountains offer something rare. She notes that spending time outside continues to bring her a sense of freedom and grounding. It is an easy pitch to believe. Sharp eyed fans on internet forums noticed her wearing the brand in casual social media posts and high profile magazine shoots months before any official contract was revealed.

From the corporate suite in France the view is equally ambitious. Kristof Cavazzana, the global vice president of product and experience at Salomon, points out that Jisoo represents a generation embracing openness, curiosity, and complete fluidity between sport and fashion. In his view her perspective and global influence are perfectly synchronized with how the brand continues to evolve, bringing mountain heritage into broader cultural conversations.

There is a compelling moral complexity to this shift. The more outdoor brands chase the global elite of pop music, the more the original subcultures that built their underground cool factor get squeezed out. When technical trail shoes first became the uniform of urban creatives, it was because the gear felt authentic, durable, and blissfully indifferent to the whims of the fashion industry. Now that the look is fully institutionalized by a pop titan, we have to wonder what happens to the soul of a brand when its footwear is engineered for the wilderness but destined for a stadium stage. Still, in an era where traditional luxury feels increasingly stagnant and out of touch, perhaps a rugged pair of trail runners is the only honest uniform left for navigating the modern world.
