NIKI: A BUZZ at the Vic Theatre
NIKI, the Indonesian-American singer-songwriter, has been taking the music world by storm, or at least our household, which is the same thing, right? NIKI’s latest album, "Buzz," is a follow up to one of our favorite albums of the decade “Nicole,” if not of all time. The album Buzz’s masterpiece showcases her incredible talent and versatility as a now seasoned artist. We were fortunate enough to attend her concert at the Vic Theatre in Chicago as part of her BUZZ world tour. Now let us not brush over the The Vic Theatre, as it is such a historic venue with a stunning architecture that perfectly complements the energy of live music. My first time at this venue I remember it being no earlier than 11PM waiting in line to get in for a Dua-Lipa Lollapalooza after show in which we saw the IDGAF singer grace the small venue with her electric British pop. Walking back into the venue I was nostalgic for that night and I could not wait to see how NIKI would be in the same space.
NIKI's performance was everything I hoped it would be. She was full of energy, and her voice was incredible as she did not fail to hit every note perfectly. She performed a mix of old and new songs, including tracks from her latest album, "Buzz," and her previous album, "Nicole," and fan favorites like Lowkey. The crowd was singing along to every word, and it was clear that NIKI had a deep connection with her fans.
NIKI's stage presence was captivating. She was dressed in a stunning leather and lace outfit that perfectly complemented her edgy and sophisticated style. Her band were also incredibly talented, adding to the overall energy of the performance as they left nothing backstage and brought all of their energy to support the singer-songwriter.
As NIKI performed her new song "Too Much of a Good Thing," the song’s catchy and upbeat pop anthem that perfectly showcases NIKI's vocal range as she stepped onto the small stage. The crowd was singing along at the top of their lungs, and it was clear that this song was a fan favorite and deserved the accolades it has gotten since releasing earlier this summer.
Another standout performance was "Tsunami." This song is a more emotional ballad that showcases NIKI's vulnerability. Her voice was raw and powerful, and the lyrics were incredibly relatable. “F*** I think I’m falling for you,” still ringing in my ears from loyal fans screaming thier feelings at 88Rising’s talent.
NIKI's music is a captivating blend of catchy hooks and thought-provoking lyrics. She writes about love, loss, and self-discovery with a raw honesty and authenticity that resonates deeply with her fans. Beyond her incredible talent as an artist, NIKI's outspoken nature makes her music even more empowering and inspiring. Her clever and insightful witty dialogue always capturing the complexities of human emotion, showcasing her unique view of the world as a songwriter. For those seeking something fresh and exciting, NIKI's music is the perfect choice. Her music is truly something special, and we can't wait to see what she does next.
