Today, we're taking a trip down the musical rabbit hole to discover The Crane Wives, a four-piece indie band from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Formed in 2010, The Crane Wives have carved a unique space for themselves in the music scene. Their sound is a captivating blend of folk, rock, and pop, woven together with stunning three-part vocal harmonies that are guaranteed to get stuck in your head (in the best way possible). The band's core consists of two powerhouse vocalists and guitarists, Emilee Petersmark and Kate Pillsbury. Joining them on the rhythm section are the ever-steady Dan Rickabus on drums and vocals, and the groove-master Ben Zito on bass. Together, they create a sonic tapestry that's both intricate and infectious. Their live shows are legendary for their energy and audience engagement, leaving fans wanting more. Over the years, The Crane Wives have released five full-length albums, each showcasing their musical evolution. They've become festival favorites, gracing stages across the United States with their infectious sound. Whether you're a die-hard folk enthusiast or a rock and pop devotee, The Crane Wives have something for everyone. Their music is a delightful exploration of genre-bending melodies, powerful vocals, and an undeniable zest for life.
Crane Wives Live: A Photographer's Dream!
Speaking of infectious energy, I had the incredible opportunity to catch The Crane Wives live last night at the Annex (Hi-Fi here in Indy)! The entire show left me speechless, with both the band's contagious enthusiasm and the crowds dedication to the The Crane Wives. Let me tell you, hands down it was the the center highlight of my career this summer documenting shows! The band was so in sync with the crowd pulsing with energy. I snapped photo after photo, trying to capture the magic of the night. I found that the real challenge came after the show once I got back home. Scrolling through my camera roll, I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of fantastic shots. Every click seemed to reveal another gem – a candid moment of connection between band members, a fan lost in the music, or the pure joy radiating from Emilee's face as she belted out a song. So, what's a music lover/photographer to do? Share the wealth, of course! I'm still narrowing down my favorites, but I wanted to use this opportunity to spread the love for The Crane Wives and their incredible live show.
