I've always been more of a city dweller, so the allure of the county fair has often escaped me, but the State Fair on the other hand, well hold my drink, because the State Fair has been a highlight of my family since I could remember. Roasted Corn, Lemon Shake-Ups, sign me up. The fair though is more than just food. The older I have gotten the less I am paying for Midway tickets, and the time I am committing to watching competitions, and take pride in the real stars of the Fair. This year we at Future Gold Media have the sweet opportunity to cover some of those amazing moments the Indiana State Fair is known for. Stay tuned here for as much State Fair news we can deliver during the next few weeks.

The very first activity got me out of bed early this morning as I was shuttled from my car to the Indy Colosseum where I was able to watch the 4-H horse and pony competition for those in the 4-H. The show proved to be a surprisingly relaxing experience. Escape the heat, grab a coffee, and enjoy some amazing passing of a baton from one bucket to the next. Could it be any simpler for a Wednesday morning?

Surrounded by the rhythmic clip-clop of hooves and the gentle sway of manes, I found myself transported to a world of quietude and grace. Watching young riders navigate their equine partners with such skill and confidence was truly inspiring. It was a stark contrast to the frenetic pace of traffic I took on to even get to this event. No, this was offering a serene chill amidst the bustling Fall Creek Blvd.

The showmanship on display was captivating. Each rider and horse seemed to move as one, their partnership a testament to countless hours of dedication and training. It was a beautiful display of athleticism, combined with a deep connection between human and animal. With only one fall, I would say this went off without a hitch.

After about two hours, I left the arena, still shaking with the sense of excitement and relaxation I’d experienced. It was a reminder that even in the heart of a bustling city, moments of peace and beauty can be found. Also, it's a great kick in the pants to take it easy at the fair. There are 100 things to do, but sitting for a minute, or even an hour, is the best way to stay calm and collected while celebrating the Indiana State Fair this year. Remember this year that if your going to the fair put on that sunscreen, and champion those who compete in any way as without them there would be no State Fair.
