Stylist Shinichi Mita, known for his work in fashion magazines, advertising, and as creative director for Ichiro Yamaguchi's (Sakanaction) project group "NF," is presenting his exhibition "Path in Trace -轍-" at Laforet Museum Harajuku until April 20th, 2025. The exhibition explores the concept of "Matoi" (纏い), which translates to "wearing" or "adorning," through a compelling dialogue between traditional Japanese crafts and contemporary technology.

Mita's ongoing exploration of what it means to "wear" extends beyond conventional fashion styling, delving into Japanese history and philosophy. This exhibition showcases a new form of expression, born from Mita's sketches and concepts, brought to life through collaborations with diverse artisans and creative teams. Building upon his 2023 "Shinichi Mita in-Spire Breathing" exhibition at Dazaifu Tenmangu Treasure Hall in Fukuoka, "Path in Trace -轍-" features new works and a broader scope.

The exhibition includes contributions from custodians of traditional Japanese techniques, such as Takahiro Yagi, the sixth-generation head of "Kaikado" (tea caddies), and Hozai Matsubayashi XVI of "Uji Chato Asahi Yaki" (Uji tea ceramics). These are juxtaposed with the innovative approaches of media art collectives like "Rhizomatiks" and "nomena," highlighting a fascinating fusion of craftsmanship and technology. This convergence aims to unlock new possibilities in the realm of "Matoi," charting a course for its future evolution. The exhibition invites viewers to contemplate the enduring relevance of traditional materials and techniques within the ever-evolving landscape of fashion and personal adornment.
